Today we Pivot. We are Protecht.

Today we pivot.

We are no longer TicketGuardian. That doesn’t mean TicketGuardian is dead, by no means is it going away, but it does mean things have changed.

Starting today and from here on, we will be Protecht.

This move is designed to streamline and simplify Protecht’s offerings to our partners, prospects, and customers. This is for you.

We’ve had an incredible opening to 2019. We’ve launch partnerships with Learfield, Tickets.com, Paciolan, and Spectra and are in the works with a few more.  We launched our documentary series, FanStories while hosting our second Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series TicketGuardian 500 in Phoenix, Arizona.

The primary goal of the rebranding is to concentrate on our mission statement, “We Protecht What Matters” as we continue to grow at such a rapid pace.

We’re here to protect those incredible encounters and memories as well as the investments fans make in them. We also provide an unprecedented level of control and information for platforms and organizers in managing their events to help protect those investments as well.

Our industry-leading live event technology and consumer-facing protection products help provide ticketing platforms and organizers with control over inventory, additional lines of revenue, fraud prevention tools, and fan engagement through enhancements like an improved checkout flow, bot detection (beta), and upgraded security.

Through our FanShield, TourShield, EventShield, RegShield and FraudGuardian offerings we provide a dynamic solution for the live events industry to protect attendees and organizers alike from financial burden by insuring tickets, registrations, and events including music, sports, endurance, conferences and more.

It’s easy for things to get muddled and confusing these days, and what we all want is simple; Clarity.

So now you have it. We are more than insurance, we are more than tickets, and we are more than insurtech.  We have been those things, and we still care about those things, but they are just part of who we are.

Who you are and what you stand for matters. We stand for the belief that everyone should be able to make memories that they can one day share with others. We stand for you because we are you.

Memories matter.

Moments matter.

Experiences matter.

You matter.

We Protecht what Matters.

We are PROTECHT.

TicketGuardian | Built In LA’s 50 Startups to Watch in 2019

The Southern California tech scene grew by leaps and bounds in 2018. Funding rounds ballooned, exit prices surged, and a growing list of companies from premier tech hubs like San Francisco, Boston and Seattle opened shop and laid down roots across Southern California. It was also a big year for LA from a diversity perspective — look no further than the groundbreaking PledgeLA initiative — and the city gained some global attention as well: CB Insights ranked Los Angeles one of the top 25 cities for tech innovation in the world.

There’s no doubt that between LA, Orange County and Santa Barbara, the SoCal ecosystem is poised for even bigger, more innovative work in 2019.

For the fifth time annually, Built In LA culled through public records, fundings, news stories and more to compile this list of 50 young companies — all less than five years old — that we think are poised to make a real impact on the Southern California tech scene this year and beyond.

Newport Beach-based TicketGuardian, a ticket insurer for live events, works with ticketing platforms, event organizers and consumers to make the live event-going experience more efficient from top to bottom. Coming off an $8 million Series A round in December — their largest funding round to date — TicketGuardian is looking to the new year to grow right alongside the booming experience economy.

Insurer of Concert Tickets Gets National Platform

A startup that insures concert tickets has entered into a strategic partnership with a national platform that provides ticketing services for thousands of arts, entertainment and sports organizations worldwide.

Protecht, with HQ in Newport Beach, created a way for attendees to insure their purchased tickets, registrations or bookings through its TicketGuardian technology and FanShield suite of products.

It’s now partnering with Tickets.com

Financial details of the partnership have not been disclosed.

The partnership gives Tickets.com’s partners access to theTicketGuardian tech, allowing for “expansive” control over ticket inventories as well as access to real-time data and analytics.

The two award-winning, tech-focused companies are also teaming up to offer the FanShield products to Tickets.com partner venues and the event-goers they serve, offering patrons the opportunity to protect their purchases against unforeseen circumstances.

FanShield is now available as an option in digital ticket purchase transactions for select Tickets.com partner venues, as well as for patrons buying tickets through other channels such as the box office, call center and direct sales marketing.

Financing

The startup has received $13 million since inception, including a recently-closed Series A round that raised $8 million, led by AmFam Ventures and IA Capital. This round closed at a $73 million valuation. (See related story here).

$10 million of it’s financing is in equity, Derbyshire told OC Startups Now.

Protecht may open a Series B round in Q2.

It’s been in revenue since March 2016. Sales are growing and doubled last year, Derbyshire said.

The Technology

The TicketGuardian tech and Fanshield insurance suite were created to safeguard a significant portion of the $9 billion that IBISWorld estimates consumers spend to purchase tickets online for concerts, sporting events, live theater, fairs, festivals and other events.

It’s estimated that U.S. online ticketing revenues for sports and music events alone totaled about $7.1 billion in 2017.

And, the demand of the market shows that attendees of events want the same flexibility that every other commerce interaction has in today’s modern online economy, Derbyshire told OC Startups Now.

With live events and experiences expanding globally, millions of people are experiencing an increase in ticket prices. The average face-value ticket price in 2017 among the top 100 grossing concert tours in North America was $78.93, according to Pollstar.

Foundation

Protecht launched in 2016. It has won an award for best InsurTech company in North America from Efma Accenture Distribution & Marketing Innovation Awards, a global competition.

Protecht founder and CEO Bryan Derbyshire started and still owns ShopGuarantee and Modern Transact.

Buying tickets himself catalyzed his founding of protecht.

“Everyday I learn from every interaction I have,” he told OC Startups Now. “The experiences of starting something in the past and leveraging those lessons to help expedite the success of TicketGuardian were crucial early on while they were relevant. As we have now grown past my prior successes, I lean heavily on my team, clients, board, and personal experiences and gut to make decisions.”

Prominent customers include ShowClix, Accesso Showare and events.com.

Protecht has five of the top 10 ticketing platforms in the world under contract and all have plans of launching in Q1 or Q2, Derbyshire said.

Why OC?

He said OC is the perfect location for protecht’s HQ, “as the competition for innovative companies with our scale is low, and although the presence of some of the industry’s Mount Rushmore companies may have a local presence, they tend to draw a different talent pool.”

Protecht contributes to the overall success of OC’s startup ecosystem by “continuing to help drive innovation… by helping to support STEM programs for women, hackathons for the general area, and working with UCI and other local code schools to keep OC relevant and (prevent) talent from leaking up to the Bay Area or LA.”
